How it works
The roper sits on the horse and triggers the start. The calf runs along a track away from them, pauses at the end and returns, so the player can take the rope off and go again without climbing down. We can change the calf's speed, so a child gets a slow calf and a confident adult gets a fast one.
There is nothing to fall off at speed. The horse stays still, which makes this one of the gentler western attractions we rent.
Events it suits
- Country and western themed weddings, where guests want a photo moment
- Corporate hoedowns that need something people can try in business clothes
- Kids' birthday parties with a cowboy theme
- County fairs and community days that want a rodeo flavor without livestock
What your rental includes
We deliver the horse, track and calf, set it up along a wall or down one side of the room, and leave space at the sides for the rope swing and the line. An attendant coaches the first ropers, which makes a big difference to how many guests actually land a catch. Ropes come with it, and takedown is included.
Running a roping contest
Give each player three throws and count catches. For a harder round, speed up the calf for anyone who scores three out of three. A visible scoreboard helps, and a cheap trophy buckle for the best roper of the day goes down well at adult events.
Most guests in the New York area have never held a rope. Watching someone land a first catch draws a crowd of people who want to try next.
Safety and booking
Players take part at their own risk and follow our attendant's rules. For a riding-and-shooting game, see Ambush. A simpler, unpowered roping game is Lasso the Longhorn. More options are on our add-ons page. Tell us your room size and get a quote.
Questions people ask
Does the horse move?
No. The horse stays still and only the calf moves.
Can young children play?
Often yes, with the calf at a slow speed. Our attendant sets age and size limits.
Does it work outdoors?
It can on flat, firm ground with power nearby. Our crew protects the track if rain comes in.
